Emerald Ash Borer
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an exotic invasive beetle that will have a significant impact on the Village’s urban forest. The Village has been hard at work over the last two years preparing for its arrival, which was confirmed in Madison in fall of 2013. Dane County is now under quarantine. Overall, there are between 600-700 ash trees in Waunakee street terraces and Village parks. The Village plans to systematically remove these trees over the course of the next 5-7 years. Because costly annual treatment is required for the remainder of the life of each tree, the Village is not pursuing treatment. If willing to commit to treating the tree, interested residents may preserve the ash tree in their terrace. Residents may also consider early replacement.
