Dog & Cat Licenses

All Village of Waunakee residents owning a dog or cat that is 5 months of age or older must have their pet licensed. The license year is January 1 through December 31. For more information, view Wisconsin statutes 174.05 and 174.42 (PDF) and the Village Code of Ordinances Chapter 14 (see links below). All licenses issued after March 31 will be assessed a $5 per license late fee.

New in 2024 the Village of Waunakee will be transitioning away from the PetData program for licensing dogs and cats, and implementing new online licensing provided through Cloud Permit. This new system will enable the Village to better serve pet owners by processing applications in a timely manner and providing local customer service if needed. Please disregard any notifications you may receive from PetData.  

Rabies Vaccination

Proof of rabies vaccination from your veterinarian stating the manufacturer name, serial number of the vaccine, expiration date of the vaccination, and spay/neuter information must be provided before a license can be issued by to you. If your rabies certificate does not show spay/neuter information, a separate document proving this status must be submitted.
