What is Shop With A Cop?


Shop With A Cop is a program to assist economically less fortunate youth during the Holiday Season. The basics of the program include an officer picking up a child and accompanying them to Target (East) where each child receives a credit of approximately $150 to spend in the store. The primary goal is to allow children the opportunity to shop for their families and to also buy a gift for themselves.

After shopping, everybody travels to the VFW, located on Lakeside Street in Madison where they wrap presents and enjoy pizza provided by Little Caesar's.  After the presents are wrapped and everyone is full, the officer and child head home with a police car full of Christmas presents.

Who Sponsors Shop With A Cop?

The Village of Waunakee Police Department receives sponsorship from businesses and individuals from the community.  Without you, the sponsors, we would not be able to have the Shop With A Cop program each year.

How Are the Children Picked?


Children are recommended for participation in the program by police department members, school employees, and social agencies. Anyone can nominate a child who meets the criteria of being between the ages of six and eleven and who has a social or economic need. The child must also be a resident of the Village of Waunakee and not have participated in the past.
