The position of Police School Liaison Officer (PSLO) was originally introduced to the school district in February, 1996. After a 1 year trail period, an evaluation of the program was completed by the police department and the school district. It was agreed that the program was a success, and the police department and the school district agreed to make the position permanent. The current school liaison officer is Mitch Flora. Officer Flora can be reached at the school on school days at 608-849-2109.
The ultimate goal of the PSLO program is to establish a rapport with the youth of Waunakee in cooperating with the school district. The school liaison officer has a wide variety of job duties, including:
- Investigating crimes
- Maintaining rapport with parents and parent groups
- Presentations to classes K-12
- Providing security during the school day, sporting events, dances, and other related functions
During the summer the school resource officer works in uniform on patrol.
