Yard Waste & Composting Sites

Yard Waste refers to all non-woody vegetation, including grass clippings, leaves, and other yard waste.

Pruning is one of the best things you can do for your tree... it is the kindest cut. For proper tree pruning, please review the link below:

Yard waste can be delivered to the designated compost site listed below.

The MRD compost facility, open seasonally from April through November, is located at 5211 Highway Q and is operated by Purple Cow Organics. Residents of the City of Middleton and the Villages of Waunakee and Shorewood Hills may continue to bring the following items to the site at no charge:
  • Brush
  • Branches
  • Tree Limbs (up to 6” in diameter)
  • Wood chips
  • Sawdust
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Plants
  • Christmas trees
  • No other items are accepted at the site.
Residents of other communities are invited to use the compost facility subject to the drop-off rates posted at the site. Rates are based on vehicle size, and Purple Cow Organics politely suggests you maximize your loads to experience the best value.

The MRD compost facility is open seasonally from April through November with the following hours of operation:
  • Monday 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Thursday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

  • Sunday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. (only for residents of Middleton, Waunakee and Shorewood Hills)
Please plan your home projects accordingly. After-hours drop off is prohibited and is subject to a fine. Our neighboring communities are fortunate to have a MRD compost facility to handle yard material processing. Diverting this material from the landfill is something our communities can be proud of. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
